Message from the Chairman

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Tejgaon College is one of the pioneering departments of the faculty of science in education and research at the National University, Bangladesh. The department has come a long way since its inception in 1989. Currently, we offer Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in biochemistry with a clear mission to develop transferable knowledge and skills in students. Our department has always been dedicated to maintaining an environment for better learning, creative thinking, innovation, and leadership.

The diverse research areas that are arranged for the master’s thesis students in collaboration with subject-related research institutes like the Atomic Energy Research Establishment (AERE), Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI), National Institute of Biotechnology (NIB), Institute for Developing Science and Healthcare Initiatives (ideSHi), ICDDRB, and BCSIR. Thesis student completes their thesis under the working supervisors of these institutes and the academic supervisors of our faculty members. Our departmental lab is also well developed for research with our college authority’s encouragement and financial support. Professor Dr. Md. Harun-or-Rashid, our respectable principal, is a man of research mentality.

His cooperation in this regard is highly appreciated by our department. There are numerous scopes for our alumni; they have been performing excellently in their respective fields at home and abroad. In the country, we arrange job markets in pharmaceutical industries, research centers, diagnostic centers, and other related organizations for them. We regularly arrange internship programs for Honor’s and Master’s final-year students in medical college hospitals, research centers, pharmaceutical industries, and diagnostic centers. Recently, a special training program was arranged for the graduates of the Bangladesh Referral Institute for Chemical
Measurements (BRICM) under the Ministry of Science and Technology.

All of these efforts reflect the extraordinary quality of our department and help our education system. The quality of our faculty members and course curriculum are well developed to face the global challenges in the fields of life science and research.
